TVC Chamber Singers

Inspired by the success of Coro di Signori, The Vocal Consort launched a second branch, TVC Chamber Singers, which seeks to explore a different choral sound – a smaller group for a more intimate setting and hopefully, an enhanced quality of choral singing. TVC Chamber Singers made its first appearance in the 10th edition of A Voyage of Songs in Bangkok, Thailand in November 2013, where the choir managed to attain a Silver Diploma in the ‘Chamber Music’ category. TVC Chamber Singers also appeared in TVC’s annual concert in 2014, ‘Nova Voce’, and performed three songs. More recently, during the Singapore Choral Festival held in August 2015, TVC Chamber Singers premiered the commissioned piece of the festival, ‘Irama Belia SG50’, composed by local musician Dr. Zechariah Goh.

TVC Chamber Singers held its first headline concert in December 2015, titled ‘When I Have Sung My Songs To You’, where the choir took on songs from different periods, ranging from the Renaissance period to contemporary works from world-renowned choral composers like Eric Whitacre, Z. Randall Stroope and Ēriks Ešenvalds.

Most recently, TVC Chamber Singers competed in the prestigious 1st Tokyo International Choir Competition. They emerged as category winner for the Contemporary Music category, 2nd place for Chamber Choir category, took home two gold diplomas, and a special award titled Best Interpretation of a Piece from Renaissance & Baroque era award. They were also the only Singapore choir to have been selected into the Final Round, scored the second highest points across the entire competition, and was a Grand Prix finalist. The 1st Tokyo International Choir Competition (TICC) was held from 27 to 29 July 2018 in Tokyo, Japan. Spearheaded by world-renowned choral composer Ko Matsushita, who is the festival’s general producer and artistic director, the competition saw a total of 137 entries in the Qualifying Round, of which 50 were non-Japanese choirs and 87 were Japanese choirs.
