about us
The Vocal Consort
was formed by the South West Community Development Council
(CDC) in
September 2001 with the aim of being a premier community choir for
residents to share their love of singing while promoting community
bonding. Its talented members range from secondary school students to
working professionals under the direction of accomplished local
conductor Mr Nelson Kwei.
Since its inception, The Vocal
Consort has been actively involved in numerous national cultural
events, in addition to collaborations with other national arts groups
and events organised by the South West CDC. The choir can also be seen
carolling at various locations in Singapore such as Le Meridien Hotel,
during the Christmas season.
The Vocal Consort holds
annual concerts in its bid to explore different genres and styles of
music, and strives for opportunities to perform and compete abroad to
gain international exposure. Its 2008 annual concert, entitled
The Canterbury Tales – Songs of
the British Isles, will be held on 30th March 2008 at
Singapore Conference Hall.
The
Vocal Consort also marks its place in the international choral scene,
having clinched Gold Diplomas in various international competitions
such as
A Voyage of
Songs in Genting Highlands, Malaysia in 2003, and
International Festival of Songs
and Choirs, Mundi Cantant, in Olomouc, Czech Republic in
2006, where it became the only Singapore choir to be inducted into the
“Superior Societas”.
To date, The Vocal Consort continues to inject life and zest into the
local choral scene.
